Alireza Behrooz, formerly a partner with the D.C. area office of a major national law firm, has 15 years of private practice experience with intellectual property matters. He has represented small to large multinational companies and universities with preparing, obtaining, and securing patents on inventions, in particular in the life science, biologics/pharmaceutical, and biotech sectors, as well as providing opinions and due diligence analysis. Alireza is also experienced in challenges to patent validity and has assisted clients in inter partes reviews (IPRs), an efficient, cheaper alternative to litigation that is conducted before the United States Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB).
As a former scientist prior to entering private law practice, Alireza performed bench research and published numerous peer-reviewed scientific articles relevant to the areas of diabetes and cancer.
Alireza earned his J.D. from Franklin Pierce Law Center, his PhD in Molecular Biology & Microbiology from Case Western Reserve University, his M.S. in biology from Long Island University, Brooklyn Campus, and his B.S. in Math Applied Science from UCLA. Alireza is a registered patent attorney and is admitted to the Bars of Virginia, the District of Columbia, and Missouri.
