Legal Questions

Can a lawyer for condo co-op that I live in charge me legal fees relating to a special assessment?

I am disabled and live off social security. A lawyer keeps charging me legal fees; every time he writes me a letter I get charged 300 and 400 dollars. I live in a co-op there was a dispute on a special assessment charge in court. I paid the special assessment but he claims I owe for the legal fees incurred too. They claim they can take my apartment and evict me. Do I have to pay the legal fees even if owe no maintenance or assessment?
