Timeline of the CoxHealth Data Breach

CoxHealth informed the public that they’d been impacted by a data breach with a notice on their website. While the company’s own network wasn’t compromised, customer data became compromised by the IntelliHartx data breach. ITx handles sensitive information from CoxHealth, and it uses tools from company Fortra such as GoAnywhere file transfer.

On February 2nd, 2023 Fortra first informed ITx of a day-zero vulnerability in the program that had enabled unauthorized parties to access customer information. This led to a months-long internal investigation, and Fortra informing ITx of a second leak led to a second months-long investigation. Ultimately, ITx did not complete the investigation until May 19, 2023, and did not inform the public until June of the same year.

In the same month, CoxHealth informed the public that it had suffered in the same data breach. The company sent out letters to 203,000 impacted customers, informing them of the type of data that had been compromised.
