Information About The ITx Data Breach

Investigations by ITx took unusually long partly because of the complex nature of the breach. While the company became aware of the breach on February 2nd, 2023, which was the result of a vulnerability in Fortra’s GoAnywhere managed file transfer product. The initial review was not complete until March 24 to complete the original review. At this point, Fortra provided the company with additional information, and ITx took until May 19 to complete this second review.

While the complete internal review took more than four and a half months, the company began informing some data breach victims at an earlier date than that. The first patients received their letters of notification on April 11th, 2023, close to two months and a week after the date of discovery.

However, ITx did not make the breach fully public until filing with the Attorney General of Maine on June 8th, 2023. Ultimately, this was more than four months after the company discovered the breach. The notice also reports the date of the discovery of the breach as April 11th, when the company’s official report states the breach had been discovered for more than two months by then.

The types of data lost in the ITx data breach include the following:

  • Name

  • Address

  • Date of Birth

  • Social Security number

Besides notifying the Attorney General of Maine, IntelliHartx also sent out letters to all remaining individuals who had been affected by the breach. These letters tell the individual what type of their data had been leaked and also offer 12 months of Experian credit monitoring.
