Biography

Jonathan Hyun is a Partner in the firm’s Chicago office, focusing his practice on business transactions and tax law related matters. He has extensive experience in a wide variety of executive compensation and employee benefits matters, including executive employment and severance agreements, non-qualified deferred compensation plans, equity-based and incentive compensation plans, tax-qualified retirement plans (including ESOPs), mergers and acquisitions (employment and pension issues), ERISA litigation, U.S. and global stock-based compensation plans, international executive transfers, and health care and other welfare benefits plans.

Jonathan also serves an outside general counsel role for several of his privately-held clients, providing business counseling on general corporate and day-to-day operational matters. In addition, he works with and advises clients on business structuring and tax planning strategies.

Jonathan represents a wide range of clients, including publicly and privately held companies (including start-up ventures), family offices, high net worth individuals and families, venture capital and private equity funds, financial institutions, boards of directors, retirement plan and compensation committees and individual executives.

Jonathan serves as Co-Chair of the Subcommittee on Regulation of Specialized Types of Retirement Income Plans of the American Bar Association’s Employee Benefits Committee of the Labor and Employment Law Section. He has authored published articles related to executive compensation and employee benefits law and is a contributing author and chapter editor of the American Bar Association’s treatise, Employee Benefits Law (a BNA publication), and its annual supplements.

Jonathan earned his Juris Doctor degree at Boston University School of Law in Boston, MA and his Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, at Boston University, majoring in Economics and minoring in Statistics.
