How can I defend a child support case and stay out of jail if I don't have the money to pay the support?

The case was put against me in 2008, I was never served. Next thing I know an amount was placed on me. I then went to jail for 2 1/2 years and am still trying to fight the case. Now they are trying to suopena bank accounts and I have no income. They are saying if I don't come up with $17,000 by January 31, 2017, I'm going to jail. What can I do?
